An April Fool
I have no idea if there is any irony in the fact that I am posting again today for the first time in some while. I will leave that up to better minds to decide.
In short, life is good.
Church:
Since the end of December we’ve been attending Faith Journey Church and have found it to be the place for us right now. The people are great, the atmosphere is very welcoming and accepting and they even implemented some of the changes I suggested in my write up of our first experience there. We are hoping to finally be able to get started in one of their small group / house churches that they offer through out the week. So again, if you are in the area, and you are looking for a local church, this is a place to check it out. If nothing else, stop into the coffee shop, Seekers, and have yourself on of their fruit smoothies which are very tasty.
One of the draw backs / advantages of attending church regularly is that it steers my mind in directions that I haven’t considered in a while, but I’ll burden you all later with those thoughts.
On a very cool note, I got to have communion for the first time in about 6 years and it was awesome.
Work:
Things at the University are moving along very well. It’s nice that for the first time in years I’m not sitting around checking the Help Wanted Ads, or biding my time until I can move along to a better place. I have a wonderful staff that works along side me and with out my folks I’d be lost. Every new day brings new challenges and my boss is always finding new things to push our way. It’s great to work at a place that finds you valuable and trusts you with greater and greater responsibility. We are almost finished with the bidding process for equipment with the new Pope John Paul II center, so that’ll be nice to get that off my plate and get down to the business of moving in. On a side note, my office is looking pretty sweet
.
One of the nice perks with this job is that I am getting a lot of opportunity to travel to different conferences and expos. One of the draw backs with the paper is that I never went anywhere, never had a chance to network, or expand my abilities or knowledge base.
In a word, work is good.
Life:
Honestly? I couldn’t be happier. My wife is awesome, my kids are amazing and things are humming along really well. Since Kara got her job at Parkview, the boys are staying more nights during the week and it’s a joy to work on home work, get bed time routines in place and to spend hours reading to my kids. We’ve been plowing through some classics from my childhood that sadly are now all out of print and very hard to find. I cannot describe how wonder it is to sit on the foot of the bed and hear my kids ROAR with laughter and beg to have 1 more chapter read to them as the evening hours slip away.
I had a chance to take the boys to their first Komets Hockey game and that was a load of fun. The Komets lost, but I knew that Jace was really getting into the spirit of things when I heard him starting yelling, “Break his arm!” from the stands. I’ll be able to take them to a Fort Wayne Freedom game in April and then we are taking them to Detroit (along with Grandpa and Grandma) to see their first Tigers game in June. That will be our first overnight stay in a hotel room with the boys so that will be interesting to see how that goes.
Other Stuff:
My buddy Tim (curse you Tim!) introduced me to a local Thai restaurant (Bann Thai) and I think I am becoming addicted to Chicken Pud Thai.
Got to see ‘V for Vendetta’ and that was a pretty cool flick.
Totally bummed that Battlestar / Stargate / Stargate Atlandis are done for the season.
Deal or No Deal – fun way to waste some time.
My Name is Earl should be a must watch for anyone.
Go Prison Break! – Funny story about this. I spent a week in Chicago for Educause and we made our way out to Second City to see Iraqtile Dysfunction (which was awesome) and it was fun to see one of the performers as a prison guard in the show – oh and I totally swear that I saw one of the ladies in a Sonic commercial.
Other than that, that’s about all you’re gonna get out of me today. Just dipping my toe into the water to see how the temperature is.
Have a good one if I don’t see you for a while.
