I’ve gotta say that my boys are just plain awesome.
I mean I honestly couldn’t ask for greater kids then the ones I have. They are each so unique and special in their own ways.
Soccer season is in full swing, and so each weekend we all make the trek out to the park in Harlan to watch the games. Sometimes the boys are really into it, and sometimes they’re not; but we always have a fun time just being there. Jace absolutely loves being the goalie, but I get so stressed out when he plays. I mean hey, no body wants to have the other team win because they scored on your kid. He’s very aggressive when he plays, and sometimes he likes to wander too far from the box. Still, somehow he manages to pull it off.
Dafyd is just all around happy to be on the field most days. He isn’t as hard core as Jace is (when Jace signs up for something he goes full tilt because he likes to win), but when he decides to get into it, he goes after it.
All the winning, loosing and tie-ing aside, my favorite part is the ride home. Most of the time they’ve already forgotten who’s won, they’re more concerned about their snack that they got at the game and what we are doing afterwards.
This past Saturday, Jace was in rare form. This kid is my talker. I swear sometimes I have no idea how is face isn’t always blue because that guy never comes up for a breath. As we were in the drive through for McDonalds, our conversation went something like this:
“Hey Daddy…”
“What Jace?”
“Can you sell free fries?”
“What?”
“Can McDonalds sell free fries?”
“No Jace, you can’t sell free fries. You can give fries away, but you can’t sell them or else they wouldn’t be free.”
“Oh.”
“So how much would they cost?”
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
From there we were off to see Wallace and Gromit.
Now I’ve been a big fan of Wallace and Gromit since I was first introduced to them in college (right around the same time as I found out about the Red Green Show). The boys and I have watched all their shorts so we were pretty pumped.
The movie turned out to be pretty good. It wasn’t ground breaking in any stretch of the word, nor was it wet your pants funny. It was just good solid Wallace and Gromit.
On Friday I had stopped at Wally World and bought the kids some skeleton T-shirts. Just simple black long sleeve shirts with glow in the dark bones on them. Jace thought it was the coolest thing since Pokemon 3D.
So on the way out of the movie Jace started talking about what he wanted to be for Halloween… which as you can guess was suddenly now a skeleton. He wanted to find skeleton sweat pants, gloves, a mask and feet.
“Daddy I want to be skeleton for Christmas.”
“Okay Jace, you can be a skeleton for Christmas.”
“Do you think mommy will let me?”
“For you Jace, I’ll make sure you get to be a skeleton for Christmas.”
“DAD! I meant Halloween.”
“Nope, sorry Jace, you said Christmas, so you get to be a skeleton for Christmas.”
“Wait, I want a redo. Rewind. Blaslkdfasldhfglasgj (Jace making a making the sound of rewinding). I want to be a skeleton for Halloween.”
It goes without saying that I made Jace repeat that a few times until I had tears coming out of my eyes.
Kids… I cannot think of anything more wonderful.
