The Big Move

Part of what has been keeping me so busy is that I started my new University job a month and a half sooner than I was supposed to. Officially the job starts on July 1, but I was asked to step in and play acting director to help with the big move on campus.

The University of Saint Francis is tearing down our old office building (aka Bonaventure Hall) and replacing with a new state of the art facility, The Pope John Paul II Center (which will also be home to the department that I am heading up). However in order to get the built, the old one has to come down.

Which means moving every person, every computer, every piece of equipment and office furniture out and into crammed little spaces else where on campus. Since the TLTC (which will be the ETC in July) has equipment in that building, it was up to the department to make sure it was moved, used, or recycled as needed and its suddenly now my responsibility to make sure it gets done.

First step was of course announcing that I was the new director (which can be fun), meeting with a dozen or so people, and then diving head first into a pool that I know little about it.

So for 4 days, that’s what we did. We moved, helped pack and unpack, setup computers and did lots of waiting and sweating.

For now the dust is settling, I have a new office (sans windows) that will be my home for the next 10 months until the new building is finished.

I’m excited about this job, its going to present a lot of challenges and a lot of new opportunities for me to learn, grow and develop into a role that I haven’t played yet.

Life, it never stays the same.
