A Blog Worthy Employment Ad
Just incase you are asking yourself why I’m leaving the newspaper I work for, here is a copy of the actual ad they ran in the paper to replace myself and the part-time person. The ad was 116 lines and would have retailed for just over $1000.
Computer
Webmaster/
Assistant
WebmasterThe Paper I work for seeks
both a full-time Webmaster and a part-time Webmaster for its Web site,
www.theirwebsite.comThe full-time Webmaster (40
hours a week) works from 4:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday through
Sunday, and at other times as necessary, such as on election nights or
during major news events. He or she is responsible for uploading the
daily feed of stories, photos and graphics from our publishing system to
a Web server. He or she also works on projects to supplement the daily
feed, such as slide shows and Flash projects; works on newsroom Intranet
projects; and administers ongoing Web-related projects such as our
message boards, polls and chat.
The part-time Webmaster (15 hours a week) works from 4:30 a.m. to 9:30
a.m. Monday through Wednesday. But can work additional hours on
different days if the full-time Webmaster is sick or on vacation. He or
she is responsible for uploading daily feeds on days the full-time
Webmaster doesn’t work.
On the day they work
together, both Webmasters combine to upload the daily feed and work on
longer-term Web projects.A high-school diploma is
required for both positions; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Knowledge of Web design, including HTML and PHP, is required. Salary is
based on education and experience; the full-time position includes
standard Fort Wayne Newspapers benefits. Preference will be given to
candidates witih journalism backgrounds or newspaper Web site
experience.
To apply for either of these positions, snail – mail a resume, links to
pages you’ve designed and a cover letter critiquing our Web site’s good
and bad points to:XXX, Manager
of News Technologies,
The Paper I work for
XXX
Fort Wayne, IN
Just a fun little comment about the idea of critiquing the website – the entire look and feel of the website is managed and controled by a partnering agency and we have no control over it. Yeah, so I’m going to be pretty bummed to be moving on.

Did he really say “the paper I work for”? That is bizarre if so.
Also, he forgot to mention that the part time and full time he or she may or may not have lunch together on some days.
The whole ad seems random and completely unprofessional!
