I’m Not Dead Yet

There were many movies that I was introduced to for the first time while attending Great Lakes: The Fisher King, Jesus of Montreal, Babbett’s Feast, and the list goes on and on.

However, I would have to say that one of the most light hearted, witty and intellectually rewarding had to be, Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are dead.

For years I have seen this movie on eBay in DVD format, but it was always the Asian version or some 0 region copy (which who knows where it came from). I’ve debated back and forth on getting it, but I always decided to pass.

Well my years of waiting has finally paid off. Rosencrantz and Gildenstern aren’t dead, they’re on DVD.

This Tuesday, my college classic finally made its way home and boy, did I forget how great this movie is.

For those of you who don’t know who R & G are, well, they are the two friends of Hamlet’s that are sent for to cheer him up and find out what’s wrong with him. They are two minor characters in the play, but this one is all about them.

“Every exit is just an entrance somewhere else.”

Their story is woven into the tale of Hamlet, they talk like two normal guys (well as normal as you can get for Rosencrantz and Gildenstern) but when they interact with the world of Hamlet, they are right into their Shakespearian dialog without missing a beat.

The movie is well written, funny, and tells you the whole story of Hamlet (from beginning to end) through the eyes of these two wonderful characters.

Make sure you stop by and pick this gem up today.
