T.V. Related Ravings & Rantings

Ah T.V., the simple joys that it can bring.

I had originally decided to write this entry about the new season of The Amazing Race, but I had several other T.V. related rants and raves that I wanted to share so I’m just tossing them all together into one big shepherd’s pie for you to enjoy or hate as your pallet allows.

The Amazing Race

I love this show. It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for all reality T.V. and this show certainly scratches that itch. Not only is this show an interesting look at how people respond to challenges, Rob & Amber of Survivor fame are in the race this year.

Now I’ve always loved Rob since his first appearance on the show. He reminds me a lot of John Nugent in that the guy is well spoken, clever, and well though out. He’s certainly the kind of guy who makes you *want* to believe him no matter what he is saying. He’s just a lot of fun. I’m personally pulling for them to win.

What I find interesting is the number of people who are competing against him who hate him and want him to loose. In the teaser for next week, the life two female life long friends are accusing him of being a liar and how they cannot trust him; I find that amazingly interesting in that everyone has plotted against them. “Oh sure we’ll agree to an alliance with Rob and Amber just so we can personally screw them in the end.” And the two ladies in question lied to contestants showing up to dig in the sand. I love people.

So if you’re not watching, you should be, this could be an interesting race.

Survivor

Speaking of Survivor, the new season has begun as well. This show just doesn’t get old (well, at least it hasn’t yet). Because the show is based on how people interact with each other, they dynamic is always changing. A fellow last night (big strong guy) stepped on a coconut and twisted his ankle and asked to be voted out. Just like that the game changed. Weather, physical injury and personal motivation drives what happens. I haven’t picked a personal favorite yet, but I’m kinda rooting for Angie since she seems like a fish out of water in her group.

Lost

Can this show get any more amazing? Wow, I’m a total addict. I’m ready to sit down and re-watch all the episodes just to look for those little hidden gems. A good example is that last night Sawyer was reading “A Wrinkle in Time”. Which got me to thinking, what other books has Sawyer been seen reading: In episode 5, “White Rabbit”, he is reading, “Watership Down”. What does it all mean? I don’t know, but I do know that I want to dig more. Locke, Rousseau, Hugo, and I am sure the list goes on to the depth of this show. I love it when people just take the time to put thought and meaning into the things that they do.

Again, if you are not watching this, you should be.

Dog: The Bounty Hunter

I found this crazy little show while I was in Washington on A & E. It’s about Dog Chapman who’s a bail bondsman and chases bad guys. It’s like cops, but with a guy who cares about the people he is picking up. He’s all tough and hard when trying to catch them, but the moment he does he wants them to change their lives and do the right things (often quote them some mangled scripture in the process). Dog got his first big claim to fame when he went to Mexico and catpured Andrew Luster.
This show just cracks me up, so if you’re looking for some levity in your reality T.V., this would be a good stop.
