Super Game Day

So the Super Bowl has come and gone.

I would have to say that I enjoyed this game more than any other in the past 3 or 4 years. For starters it was close. Nothing like watching someone get blown out by 42 points in the first quarter.

But as a little bit of arm chair quarterbacking, WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THE EAGLES DOING? I mean honestly could you waste any more time? Ever hear of a thing called a “HURRY UP” offense? I bet you wish you had a few more seconds there at the end of the game. Ah well, you can’t win them all.

Now, onto the IMPORTANT part of the night, the commercials:

So, you didn’t get to catch them, or you want to relive them all, well here you go, you can go and see them at: http://sports.channel.aol.com/nfl/superbowlads

I’ll have to dig up a link for you to see the ones that they made, but pulled for whatever reason.

Now, for those of you who did catch the commercials, which one(s) were your favorites?

I’d have to say my top three would be Ameriquest Robbed (1st quarter) and Ameriquest Guilty (3rd quarter) and Visa Super Heroes. There were some other good ones, but those really did it for me. On the whole though I thought this year was pretty week as far as commercials go. But take a look and let me know what you think.

Now, onto the gaming.

I’ll flush this out a bit more later, but here’s the skinny:

Jon and I started out by playing The Duell (yes, with a second l). I love this game, quick, fast and fun. I smoked Jon 5 to 1.

From there we moved onto Rosenkonig. Another great little two player game. End result was the same. Win for the home team.

To mix things up a little bit we moved onto DVONN. I love the GIPF series. Jon didn’t fare so well in this contest either. But not to be detoured, Jon took on new comer Brian and gave him a school he’d never forget.

From there we moved onto Hansa. Brian took the first game by 1 point (curse you Brian!) I came in second and Jon third. I took the second game by several points, Jon followed next and Brian came in last.

It was at this point that I think the pizza arrived and so did Bobby.

We moved into the living room to watch the game and play some Catan. What a great game. Bobby hammered us in ore getting 6 on every roll. I don’t know how he did it. 3, 11, 9 and 6 were the most common numbers in that game. I couldn’t get an 8 or 10 to save my life. Bobby took first with 10, Jon 9, I had 7 and Brian had 5 (due to having the largest army, the poor guy only had 3 settlements).

We closed the night up with a LONG OVER DUE game of Gang of Four.

I forgot how much I loved this game (and how good I was at it). I ended the night with 17 points and the win. Jon I believe came in second with 37ish points, Bobby somewhere in the 40s or 50s and Brian was a few points shy of 100. It was a good time.

  • Thanks again to Michelle and Bob for their exceptionally pleasant hospitality, and also for revealing the unitiated (me!) the wonders of big-big-big screen TV AND tivo!

My only complaint – the lovely Michelle didn’t jump into the Settlers game, and show Bobby a thing or two about how that game was meant to be played!

Only kidding, of course. I t was an excellent gathering, as always….even if the closest I can come to any ‘bragging rights’ in the various games we played was that I didn’t reach 100 in Gang of Four before the final round ended.

    Huzzah!! Huzzah!!
