The War Room

So here I am for the 5th year in a row sitting in the news room on election night.

All around me reporters are busy checking the fax machine waiting for numbers to start pouring in. Runners are out at all the polling stations where they count the votes with cell phones poised to spring into action.

CNN is on in the background.

It’s going to be a long night.

Don’t get me wrong. I like election night. I like the excitement. There are two things that drive me nuts. The first is the less than fragrant odor that seems to waft from the desk next to me. My boss, a rather rotund man, has personal hygiene issues. Normally I don’t have to deal with it since I never see him, but the idea of spending possibly the next 6 or so hours next to that smell is well, stomach churning.

The other big issue is the stress. It’s no big shocker that the general media (with the exception of FOXNews) is very pro-Kerry. Every time there is a lead story with a headline Bush, Kerry, there is a John Kerry photo. Hollywood and the music business is behind Kerry as well. Anytime Hollywood gets behind something, that should clue you in. Why are so many people anti-Bush, I believe its because he’s a man of moral character and there are a lot of people who don’t like that. If the guy was a sleaze bag, there wouldn’t be so much opposition.

I work for the liberal paper in town. So I am lone voice in the wilderness. I’ve been praying for days. I’ve been praying for George Bush to be president, but that God will put the man of his choosing in that office.

It’s pins and needles.

It’s election night, and I am in the middle of democracy at work.
