Coolest Toy

Okay, I’ve bought some toys in my life time, but shedang! This iPAQ is just rockin’ my face off.

Here’s the skinny:

It’s got built in wireless, Bluetooth, and IR.

It has Windows Media Player 10 that syncs pictures and movies and compresses them to save space.

It syncs with your Outlook to keep your calendar up to date, your email as well as your contacts list.

Lots of pretty colored themes.

I can surf the web.

I can listen to MP3s.

Age of Empires in my pocket!

I have this snazzy little program called DVD to Pocket PC where I can turn a DVD into a pocket sized move that fits on 128k SD card.

I learned a new maxium – a watched DVD never encodes.

I get to use the word sync without having to put N’ before it.

I can controll all the IR devices in my house with it (DVD, TV, Stereo, etc.) just like a universal remote.

Streaming media from my PC.

My buddy Joel (who also has one) played a game of Battle Ship against each other today in the office.

Man I love technology.

  • I’m so glad you posted about your new addition to the toy box. I had been looking around at a couple different Pocket PCs, but just hadn’t found the right one to test wireless data-entry and report access for Grabill.

However, this one is significantly less expensive than most of the others (Dell’s Axim X50 is only $340 right now, but I’m not quite sure Dell has their handheld act together) and still maintains the WIFI that I need. I’m also very excited to have a recommendation from a geek I trust. :) Thanks!

  • Hey Tim, I was going to comment on your sight, but alas, still waiting for my password to show up. In any case, the iPAQ rx31115 is a good buy for many reasons. Even more so if you are a Reward Zone member at best buy. Now through Dec. 15 you get a $10 gift card for every $100 you spend, plus the 5% back in reward points. So the cost is $350 + extended warn. puts you over $400. But you get $40 back in cash + $20ish in reward points, so its a good deal. You are welcome to play around with it. Plus the next model up has a built in camera, which is a nice plus as well.

  • I ended up going down the Buy.com route. I’ve purchased thousands of dollars of stuff from them over the years and am always impressed with the service and prices. I got the rx3115 for $315 after shipping. I keep meaning to sign up for their “affiliate” program to get the 5% kickback, but I haven’t had a chance to read if that’s legit (can you refer yourself?).

  • Well if you want a copy of Warlords II for your iPAQ, let me know :) – plus I’d be more than willing to share all my board game related themes I’ve created… at home… not at work. ;)
