You don’t know Jack… o’lanterns

Have I mentioned I love Wednesday’s? On Monday the boys and I picked up pumpkins so we could carve them this week, they even picked one out for me. So today was the day we got to put the pumpkins under the knife.

We laid out papers on the island in the kitchen (sometimes it pays to work at the newspaper), and got out some paper and pens to plot out what our faces would look like.

The boys both wanted to make sure they were scary with lots of pointed teeth so they could scare all the kids when they went trick-or-treating. The boys had a blast pulling the guts out. We’d take turns reaching in and pulling out handfuls of goop and then trying to figure out what organ it might be, I think the spleen was our favorite.

We washed them out, broke out the marker and drew our faces on. The Dafyd and Jace each took turns helping me work the knife until we’d had what they wanted. Dafyd decided he wanted to make his extra scary by coloring the teeth black. GRRR.

We had a blast.

  • What great pictures and GREAT PUMPKINS!! I LOVE that smell and cooking and eating the seeds after. Do you need directions to make them?
