Shopping Kentuckiana
It’s a little after 8:30 my time, 9:30 local time (which being in Indiana you would think it would be the same, but no, it’s not) and I’m alone in my hotel room. The TV is on in the background and I am enjoying the free wireless connection that Holiday Inn provides.
It is always interesting to watch the commercials in another place. They have this cable show here called “Shopping Kentuckiana”, it’s killing me. There’s this skinny blond chick with a thick southern drawl talking to a guy at a local auto improvement store. She’s pointing out all the various rims that they have in stock including some “spinners” that we might want to buy to pimp out our rides. From there they’ve moved to the audio section of the store where I can grab some kickers to shake the “hood”. I have this terrible image of two white guys in an old red pickup with a Confederate flag on the back rollin’ his country mile, wheels spinning, gleaming in the sun with Randy Travis thumpin’ in the bed of his truck.
It’s been an interesting trip thus far, pretty much a waste of my time, but hey, I go where they tell me. I did however eat at this cool place called King Fishers which was right on the Ohio River. The good news is that I get to go home sometime tomorrow.
I’m not quite the traveler I used to be. I don’t know when the changed happen, but if the drive is more than a hour, I’m pretty much against the trip. I think I just got burned out in college. The hours I spent driving or riding in a van just sucked all the joy from the journey I guess. Sometime I might get the love of the open road back, but not today. I just want to go home, instead I’m torn between two states, I’m neither in Indiana or Kentucky, lost somewhere in Kentuckiana.
