Momma Told Me

Momma told me there would be days like these. Yesterday was one of those days.

They always seem to start at the beginning and then follow you through the whole day. This was no exception.

The day began with me waking an hour before the alarm went off (since I have to be awake at 3:00 am you can imagine what time that was). No matter how hard I tried I just could not go back to sleep nor could I bring myself to get up and be productive.

So off to work I went. Low and behold part of our intranet was down, the front-end system we use for the newspaper wasn’t exporting any photos or artwork. I tried to call our IT department (good look getting a hold of them, even if they are on call at 5:00 am) but no one answered.

Off to my other job. Michelle called to let me know that she wasn’t feeling well so I’d have to do lunch on my own (which isn’t a huge problem since there are always plenty of people from work to go with). Now when it comes to lunch, I’m an odd-ball. I’m either an 11:00 am guy (go before the crowds) or a 1:30 pm guy (to go after the crowds have gone). No one wanted to go at 11:00 and we had a meeting at 1:30. Okay, fine, I can compromise. Everyone else had plans. UGH. So I just decided to skip lunch.

So at 1:30 we had a staff forum meeting. Normally this isn’t a big deal as no one from Campus Computing attends (we all have things to do), but it was our turn to introduce our department to the rest of the campus. Fun.

As luck would have it, we were the last item on the agenda, another two hours of my life wasted (though I did learn somethings about St. Frank, but that’s a blog for another day).

It’s 4:00 pm, I’m heading home. I’m hungry, I have a head ache, and I have to use the bathroom in a bad way. So I head home to get changed. The boys are coming over to spend the night so I have to head over to Grabill and pick them up. On the way over I get into an argument on the phone and I’m almost out of gas, and the way I went was under construction so I had to turn around and find a different way. Finally I make there, the boys are their normal self and my hope is the bad day is at an end.

Momma told me there would be days like this.

So I get the boys load and we are off to the gas station. We fill up and then Dafyd reminds me that he forgot the Game Cube games. Ugh, so another trip back to the apartment to get them. So since we are there we head a different way into Fort Wayne. While stopped at the corner of Witmer road I hear this huge THUNK! I thought perhaps Jace broke something, of just snapped the back windows closed to hard. But they didn’t touch anything.

So I turned the corner and I pulled over. A large rock had taken a chunk out of the back of the Element. If it were just a dent, I probably wouldn’t have bothered, but these were deep and paint was missing. Apparently an Amish guy using a CAT to trim the brush on the side of the road had kicked up a rock and sent it flying into the orange box. So I walked over and got his information (again, what do you do, he’s Amish, he doesn’t have insurance, he doesn’t have photo id). I was bummin’.

So on to Fort Wayne. The boys wanted Taco Bell for dinner (Dafyd’s favorite), so we swung by the ATM right there to get some cash-o-la. There was a woman standing at the ATM who spent 15 minutes (no joke) using it, or rather trying to use it. Eventually she gave up and the line started moving.

Got the cash, headed over Taco Bell. I placed the order, got to the window and they told me they had just put down the fries so I’d have to pull around and wait. 10 minutes later they brought out the food. They had gotten busy, forgot about us, and then the food was cold so they had to make it again.

Ugh.

We got home, found out I order the wrong thing for the boys (Nachos Supreme instead of Nachos Belle Grande).

The rest of the night went okay. However while typing this I got half way through clicked the wrong button on the mouse and had to re type the whole thing. UGH.
