In other news…

Right now I’m writing this rather interesting blog on nudity, but it didn’t feel right working on it while on site at a catholic university, so that will have to wait until tonight for tomorrow, but hey, it gives you something to look forward to.

So in order news, here are some random things that you may or may not find interesting, uplifting, or even worth reading:

Movies:
——-

King Arthur opens today and I’m really excited about that. I’m a sucker for fantasy type films and who doesn’t love the legend of King Arthur? Initial reports from reviews say that this movie should be good.

Also coming out this week is the long awaited Anchorman with your friend and mine Will Ferrell. If the movie is half as good as the promo spots, then bring an extra set of shorts.

Making it’s way to DVD this week is the Butterfly Effect. I haven’t had a chance to see or buy this movie yet, but it certainly caught my attention when it first came out. The reviews were mixed, but hey, I’m open to see it. If anyone has already seen it, drop me a line and let me know what you thought.

Music:
——

I’ve totally been digging Jason Mraz as of late, I think I’ve downloaded everything song that he’s ever created released or other wise (note: I legally purchased Jason’s only CD: Waiting for my Rocket to Come. The songs I speak of are live versions, etc. Please support artists and purchase their music, unless it’s Metallica in which case download away).

If you haven’t given him a listen, there are lots of resources out there on the web to hear his live music.

Christian Music – I’ve been out of the loop on this for years (other than Indy stuff or friends), but what happened? Do they even make good Christian music any more? I mean come on!? What happened to Jars of Clay (oh that’s right, it became the Dan Haseltine band and lost it’s harmony)? Cademon’s Call has gone totally flat, Third Day stopped being good a long time ago. I made the mistake of finding the new Audio Adrenaline CD (WTF was that all about?) So is ANYONE worth listening to any more? Where did the heart of Christian music go? (another rant for another time I guess).

Politics:
———

John Edwards… hehe, I mean come on, honestly… Everyone knows that Hillary is going to run in 2008, I mean that has been in the works since Billy Boy was in office. Do you think she wants to run against an a sitting Democratic president? Not likely, and she certainly isn’t going to play second fiddle to John Kerry. But it will be interesting to see how this all goes down. Regardless of your opinion, make sure you get out there and vote.

Board Games:
————

Oh, if anyone is into playing board games here are a few things to check out:

1) You can play Tigris and Euphrates online at BoardGameGeek.com – I’m always looking for players, aside from being Knizia’s best game, it’s a lot of fun, plus hey, it’s turned based.

2) Hive – GREAT two player game. Play against the computer at www.hivemania.com

I’m sure I’ll add more random thoughts through out the day, but hey, I have a baseball game to get to.

Have fun!

  • Bob,

Totally agree with you on the Christian music scene (although I do like the latest Caedman’s Call). I haven’t purchased much Christian music lately with the exception of Sixpense and Switchfoot last year. Everything else is such cookie cutter cheese it makes me sick.

Tooth and Nail still puts out some decent bands, but they’ve got so many signed now that it’s not the same anymore. Plus, just like the rest of the music industry lately there’s tons of new bands, and records, but nothing with any real staying power. Ah well…

Life is good in Lansing, MI. I’m married, just bought a house. Stuff’s going along ok. Looking forward to your nudity. I mean, your post on nudity.

    Ben

  • Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a Caedmon’s Call fan since back in the day, but I think I listened Back Home like twice, nothing really caught me ear (perhaps I’ll have to dig it back out and give it a listen to today – who knows, stranger things have happened). So where you workin’ these days (give your dad a hello for me, I miss the guy)?

  • I work at the Michigan Catholic Conference, as an Operations Specialist (AS/400 operator). It’s a job, and it looks good on a resume, but it’s a little slow. I’ll tell my dad you said hey.

  • Yeah, always looking for a way to piss off Metallica….

You should dig out “Back Home”, I really liked it. Caedmon’s is one of the only Christian bands that still has my ear. They have a new CD coming out in August.
