A Day At The Movies
Many a moon ago, my buddy Steve and I used to catch a couple of flicks every week at the local cineplex.
Steve had a kid, I got another job, and our movie watching hasn’t happened since before the Return of the King.
So, we decided enough was enough and we planned a day at the movies, here’s the line up and the low down:
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Day After Tomorrow
Shrek 2
The Chronicles of Riddick
Harry Potter:
————-
Hi, my name is Bob, and I’m a Harry Potter fan.
I’ve read the books, I’ve seen the movies, I’ve bought the DVDs. I love the story of Harry Potter, I think it’s a great thing that kids are reading the books. For those Christians who think Harry Potter is of the devil and J.K. is a witch, “bite me.”
Now, onto the movie. I liked it. I don’t know that I would say it was the best of the three at this point. I’m an old school guy who always thinks that the books are better than the movies and in this case it’s true. It’s not really their fault, the books keep getting bigger and bigger and so a lot has to be cut out in order to get the movie finished in just under 2 and a half hours. This movie felt cut to me and very hurried. But the effects were good, the kids did a good job (they better get this series finished soon, or they’ll have to get new actors). I wasn’t really impressed with the new Dumbledore. He didn’t have the compassion, or the gentle nature of Richard Harris, he was very stately and reserved. But other than that, I’d give it a 7. If you’re into Potter, then it’s a must see.
The Day After Tomorrow

I already gave my thoughts on this flim, but in review – wait for the video and split the cost with friends.
Shrek 2
——-
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see this movie, I mean, how can you improve on the first one? But I was suprised and they did a really great job. I don’t know that this was a movie that *needed* to be made as it covered much of the same theme ideas as the first film covered, but it was great none the less. An 8 to 8.5 out of 10.
The Chronicles of Riddick
————————-
Two roads divered in the woods, and I took the Riddick one, and that has made all the difference. My friend Vin could have decided to become the next xXx franchise, but in an odd twist of fate he’s decided to jump on board with the character of Riddick. I was a fan of Pitch Black (no oscars here, but a nice pop corn flick) so I was curious to see what they would do with this one. Well, wait no longer. It was a darned good movie, again, nothing like WOW, but it was pretty good none the less, it’s fun, lots of stuff blow up, some cool killing scenes, and lots of reasons to eat pop corn. It’s apparent from the film, that this will be the first of possibly others (if nothing else he has a video game coming out, an animated movie coming out on Tuesday) and I am sure there are action figures to follow. But if you are looking for a mindless action flick to see with your buds, this one isn’t a bad choice. 7 out of 10.
